Scientist Shows Art: Svante

Join art curator Svante Tirén for an art historical perspective on some of the sculptural busts in Me You We. During the evening, we will explore ornament, patterns and the role of portraiture at the intersection of art, humanity and research.

In the programme series Scientist Shows Art, The Cell invites researchers, experts and art professionals to approach art from new perspectives. This evening, you will meet Svante Tirén, writer, editor, curator and curator at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.

Svante Tirén specialises in architectural and decorative history, with a particular interest in ornament and patterns. He has taught at Konstfack and previously worked with institutions including Moderna Museet and Färgfabriken.

In his role at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, he has contributed to the selection of sculptural busts for the installation When We Meet in the exhibition Me You We. During the evening, he will talk about the art history behind the works, and how portraiture, form and material can open up new ways of looking at the human being.
