Life Science Bar: Video Games

Video games can offer relaxation, community and opportunities to grow. But what happens when gaming starts to control your life instead of the other way around?

Around half of all children and adults play video games. For most people, gaming is a natural part of everyday life, but for some, the line between engagement and addiction can be difficult to draw. As gaming disorder becomes a new diagnosis in Sweden in 2028, new questions arise about responsibility, treatment and what problematic gaming actually means.

At Life Science Bar, creators, researchers and representatives from the gaming industry come together to explore the possibilities, downsides and grey areas of gaming.

The panel for this evening’s Life Science Bar features:

  • Per Strömbäck, Managing Director, Swedish Games Industry
  • Evelina Galli, Tech Reporter, P3 Nyheter, Sveriges Radio
  • Philip Lindner, Psychologist and Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet

The evening will be moderated by Cecilia Odlind, Editor-in-Chief and Host, Communications Office, Karolinska Institutet.
